Folded "tea bag" motifs add a kaleidoscopic effect to almost any page. Watch this video and start folding!

Although tea bag folding was invented almost by accident,! Paulette Jarvey incorporates the technique into her scrapbook layouts, creating a lovely kite fold to complement a garden-theme page.

Book of tea bag folding papers
    Decorative paper for lattice design
    Black, white and red cardstock
    Black pen
    Acid-free stick glue

Tip: Select papers to offset the color and overall theme of the photograph you wish to highlight.

    1. Crop photo and mat with 1/8" white mat. Follow with a red 1/8" mat. Finally, add a black 1/16" mat.

    2. Then, cut 8 tile 1-1/2" squares and 8 rose patterned squares.

    3. To create the kite fold, place square face down on table. Fold square on diagonal (figure A), then unfold. Bring each side in to lie against the folded center line.

    4. Repeat technique until all 16 squares have been folded into kite shapes (figure B).

    5. Next, position the rose kites together on the center of black cardstock, with long points of kites meeting in the center (figure C). Adhere kites into position.

    6. Position the tile kites under the rose motif. Place the kites so that points extend from open spaces in the top layer (figure D). Use glue to adhere.

    7. Cut around entire motif, leaving thin 1/16" black mat.

    8. For center of motif, cut a tile square diagonally in half. Fold opposite points to the top point to create a square. Glue to center of motif.

    9. Adhere matted photo to background page. Glue folded tea bag motif in place and add other embellishments as desired.
