Although a holly-leaf punch was used to create this seasonal page, you can easily adapt the design to your own project and use old punches in imaginative new ways.

For these two pages, the same holly-leaf punch is used to create graphic elements of fire, water, grass -- even palm fronds!

Running short on funds, but not on creativity? One way to stretch your dollar and create versatile graphic elements is to use the same punch in multiple ways. Vivian Peritts of Emagination Crafts uses one punch -- and several household items -- to create three very different pages.

    Poinsettia Page

    Materials:

    Holly-leaf punch
12" x 12" background paper (blue with white dots was used for this example)
    8-1/2" x 8-1/2" white cardstock
    8" x 8" red cardstock
    8" x 8" forest-green cardstock
    8" x 8" green cardstock
    7" x 7" royal-blue cardstock
Small cardstock pieces or scraps in various shades of yellow and gold
    Glue
    Doublestick tape
Photocopied photographs, cut in 5-1/2" circle
    White gel pen
    Metallic-gold gel pen

    1. First, mount background paper onto scrapbook page.

    2. Then apply double-sided adhesive to the photograph copies and mount on royal cardstock. Trim the royal cardstock in a diameter 3/4" larger than the photo to create a circular mat/border. A ruler and pencil (figure A) can help measure and mark equidistantly around the entire circle.

    3. Mount the royal circle onto white cardstock (figure B) and trim the white to a diameter 5/8" larger than the royal circle. Mount the layered circles and photograph onto the center of the background paper (figure C).

    4. Use holly-leaf stamp to punch 10 red leaves, 6 forest-green leaves and 6 green leaves (figure D).

    5. Mount 5 red leaves to upper left of the circle and 5 in the lower right of the circle, arranging to create poinsettia shape.

    6. After positioning the red leaves, cut 1 green leaf down the center and mount onto forest green leaf (leaving half of the forest-green leaf exposed). Glue 3 of the two-tone leaves around each poinsettia flower.

    7. Squeeze glue into the center of each poinsettia. Cut yellow cardstock pieces into confetti squares approximately 1/8" x 1/8" each and allow them to fall directly onto the glue. Sprinkle confetti thickly (figure E).

    8. Finally, use white gel pen to write "Let in Snow" on the royal border. Use gold gel pen to personalize as desired.

    Who Let the Dogs Out?

    Materials:

    Photocopies of dog photographs
    Holly-leaf punch
12" x 12" background paper (same pattern was used as for the "Poinsettia Page")
    8-1/2" x 11" cardstock in burnt orange
    8 1/2" x 4" white cardstock
3 sheets of 6" x 6" cardstock - each in a different shade of green
    3" x 3" red cardstock
    3" x 3" yellow cardstock
    3" x 1" orange cardstock
    Black felt-tipped marker (fine)
    Doublestick tape
    Glue

    1. Use black marker to scribble in a circular motion over the burnt-orange paper.

    2. Cut tree and log shapes. Glue tree to background paper.

    3. Cut 2-1/2" circle from yellow cardstock and glue to background paper.

    4. Use holly-leaf punch to punch 4 leaves from each shade of green paper. Place the leaves around the base of the tree.

    5. Punch 1 orange leaf and 2 red leaves to create flames. Glue flames and log to background paper.

    6. Next, apply doublestick tape to the photograph copies. Cut the dog shapes from the photos and mount to background page.

    7. Finally, cut out cloud shapes. Add lettering with black pen (in this case, "Who Let the Dogs Out?"). Adhere clouds to background paper to complete.

    At the Beach

    Materials:

    Holly-leaf punch
12" x 12" background paper (for this project, Blue Marble was used)
11" x 5" cardstock - 1 sheet of each of the following colors: tan, clay, rust, white and spice flecked
6" x 6" cardstock - 1 sheet each of blue, dusty blue and steel grey
3" x 3" cardstock - 1 sheet each of various shades of green
    Doublestick tape
    Glue

    1. Punch 7 leaves each from blue, dusty-blue and steel cardstock to create water.

    2. Cut "sand" shape from tan cardstock. Align with right side and bottom of background page and use as guide for water line. Glue water on page.

    3. Follow with a hill of sand cut from the tan cardstock. Cut sand pattern from spice-fleck cardstock and stick to bottom of page. Next, cut sand pattern from clay cardstock and adhere.

    4. To create clouds, cut 2 shapes from white cardstock and adhere to page.

    5. From rust cardstock, cut tree trunk and glue to right side of page.

    6. Next, punch 2 leaves from each shade of green cardstock. Glue leaves to top of tree trunk to create a tropical palm tree.

    7. To complete the page, add copies of photographs that have been backed with doublesstick tape.
