Even if you don't cook, your kitchen is still a refuge of dirt, grease and grime. Here are some great tips and cleaning solutions from the Queen of Clean®., Linda Cobb. Cleaning the Oven Materials and Ingredients: Ammonia Baking soda White vinegar Glass pans (different sizes) Boiling Water Sponge Steel wool - Preheat oven at 200-degrees for 15 minutes.
- Fill a shallow glass pan with approximately 1" of ammonia. Be sure to use a glass pan only.
- Place the glass pan on the top shelf of the oven.
- Take another glass pan -- a longer one this time -- and place it on the bottom shelf, then pour in 1" of boiling water (figure A).
- Close the oven door and leave for at least two hours and overnight if the oven is heavily soiled.
- The next morning, make a paste with baking soda and white vinegar (see instructions, below) to wipe out the oven.
Oven Cleaning Paste Materials and Ingredients: Note: Exact ingredient measurements aren't needed for this cleaning recipe. Glass bowl A little ammonia Some baking soda A little white vinegar Spoon (or anything to stir) Damp cloth Damp sponge - Stir the mixture.
- Remove the glass pans of ammonia and water from the oven.
- Remove the cooking racks.
- Using a damp cloth, wipe out the oven well.
- Using a damp sponge, work in the baking-soda paste and scrub the surface.
Tip: If you have a stubborn spot, apply the paste and let it sit for at least 15 minutes, then wipe. - Be sure to clean the oven door and glass with this homemade cleaning solution, also.
The Queen's Dirty Little Secrets - To remove rust from knives and forks, stick them into an onion. Work the utensils back and forth in the onion, and wait a while before washing.
