Dress up a plain bookcase with stock millwork made of lightweight urethane. Designed for outdoor use, brackets, corbels, window pediments and molding can be used to add architectural interest to a plain bookcase. Kathy Ziprik of Georgia-Pacific meets with Cindy Piccoli, host of HGTV's , to show how stock pieces of Details Architectural Millwork® by Style-Mark can be added to a bookcase. Details Architectural Millwork is available in white and may be painted if desired. Kathy began with a discount bookcase, painted a rich tomato red, and demonstrated a variety of millwork options for adding design interest to the piece. Millwork rosettes can be added to the corners or the interior of the bookcase. Add chunky brackets to the top corners, or use Victorian brackets to frame all four corners. Add detailed molding along the top of the bookcase -- embossed Florentine molding is fancy; dentil molding gives a simple, tailored look. Add impact to a large bookcase by topping it with a window pediment. Attach polyurethane millwork to a bookcase with construction adhesive and finishing nails. Countersink the nails, and patch the holes with white putty.
