Crafter Melinda Graham shows how to bring a little romance into your life with lovely rose crafts. Here are some ways you can add roses to items you may already have around the house. Pillows Tie grosgrain ribbon around a fabric pillow in a crisscross fashion, vertically and horizontally. Hot-glue a ribbon rose where the ribbons intersect. Guest Towels Using an assortment of hand towels, stitch small fabric roses along the hemline. Roll the towels and put them in a basket. Fabric Hat Hot-glue a few fabric roses onto the crown of a fabric hat. Straw Hat Dress up a straw hat by adding a hatband covered with fabric roses. Hot-glue roses to a ribbon long enough to go around the crown of the hat. You can remove the hatband for a plainer look or make several different hatbands for different occasions. Napkin Rings Buy a flower pick that consists of several small wire-stemmed fabric roses twisted together. Twist the roses apart and rearrange them in a circle, twisting the wires together. Put them around napkins for napkin rings or around candles for candle rings. Or hot-glue single roses to dinner napkins to make elegant table linens. Picture Frame Hot-glue paper roses to a purchased picture frame. Headband Wrap a purchased headband with ribbon, and hot-glue roses in place. Lampshade Use hot glue or white glue to attach small roses to the rim of a lampshade. Tips: - Look in craft and fabric stores for roses made of silk, paper, ribbon and fabric. They look surprisingly real, and they're quite inexpensive. You can use fresh roses too, but they won't last as long as artificial ones.
- These are great projects for kids to do. For safety, be sure to use low-temperature hot glue. Keep a bowl of cold water close by in case you touch glue that's too hot. You can use white glue as well.
