Starting with the breakfast nook, Nancy Golden shows off the accessories she chose for the sunroom (figure A). - The dining table began its life as a bamboo quilt rack, on which Golden added a checkered and scalloped tabletop (figure B).
- On the table she placed objects designed to help bring the outdoors in visually, such as a wicker rooster, a galvanized bucket filled with sunflowers, flower-painted stemware, sunflower napkin rings with green napkins, and simple white dinnerware.
- To continue the outdoors theme, she used bamboo folding chairs that she dressed up with the simple addition of cushions.
- No sunroom would be complete without plants, so Golden brought in a number of huge plants to add color, texture and height.
- Old green wicker furniture was revived with a coat of white paint to provide a neutral background for all the colorful fabrics (figure C).
- Instead of the traditional coffee table, Golden used a large ottoman upholstered in the potted-plant print (figure D). (Tip: If you use an ottoman for a coffee table, a large coffee-table books can be pressed into service as a tray when the need arises.)
- Behind the sofa, a white lattice screen against the window-wall adds a garden-gate feel. Golden has hung plates on the screen (figure E), but other decorative items could be displayed there instead.
- The table beside the sofa wasn't in good condition, so Golden covered it with a lace cloth and added whimsical touches such as a dancing-frog lamp (figure F ), which can provide light for whoever is lucky enough to be sitting in the luxurious chaise.
- Likewise, the pillow on the armchair was in bad shape, so a neutral matelasse pillow sham camouflaged its problems.
- Finally, the addition of touches such as porcelain plates above the door made the sunroom a lovely area for sitting and talking -- or just sitting.
