Learn from the masters when you plan your tailgating excursion. - These UCLA fans have the perfect chip and dip server (figure A). The top of the helmet is filled with chips or veggies, and the bottom tray holds 2 different kinds of dips.
- Let your creative side come out when preparing food for your tailgating party. This UCLA fan assembled her 7-layer bean dip with the playing field in mind (figure B).
- A UCLA ex-cheerleader who married a UCLA ex-football player says that the essential ingredient for any tailgating party is champagne. Mix with orange juice for pre-game mimosas.
- Some USC fans travel every weekend to catch all the games. Before the game they enjoy fried chicken, potato salad, chips, dips, veggies and chili. After the game they relax with carrot cake and coffee while the crowds disperse. They announce their loyalty to one and all with this "fan-tastic" ice bucket helmet (figure C).
- USC fans Ron and Pat Ellico have won the Tailgating Championship for 4 years. Their secret is a wide spread of scrumptious goodies that they invite other tailgaters to share. The Carne Asada, or marinated steak with tortillas, is a definite crowd pleaser, and fresh flowers ordered the same day add a festive touch to their table. They begin the day at 8:00 am and continue until everyone leaves the stadium.
- A Southern Cal fan tells Bohay that the recipe for a great tailgate combines good food and drink with lots of friends and family. She insists that guacamole is a must, along with champagne and dessert. A motor home is preferable, and getting started early in the morning will allow enough time for maximum enjoyment.
Bohay tells us that no matter which team is your favorite, great rivalries make for greater tailgating parties. She says that the best all-time rivalry since 1887 is Michigan vs. Notre Dame. These two teams have won the most games in the history of college football.
