Jan Dressler, owner of the Dressler Stencil Company, stencils on cookies and a cake. Materials: Baked and frosted rectangular cake Baked sugar cookies Food coloring Stencil brush Mylar stencil, or Mylar to cut your own stencils Craft knife Paper towels Small bowl - Pour food coloring into a small bowl. Dip a stencil brush into the food coloring, and wipe it on paper towels to remove much of the color.
- Place a small Mylar stencil on top of a baked sugar cookie, and pounce the stencil brush with the food coloring over the stencil (figure A). If you'd like to create your own stencils, draw a simple design on Mylar, and cut it out with a craft knife. Jan used red food coloring on the cookies (figure B).
- To stencil a cake, place a baked and frosted cake in the refrigerator so the frosting is firm. Jan's cake had white frosting, and she used red food coloring.
- Place a Mylar stencil on top of the cake. Dip a stencil brush into the food coloring, and wipe it on paper towels to remove most of the color.
- Pounce the stencil brush over the stencil on the cake until the design is visible. Remove the stencil (figure C).
