  • Paint Over Vinyl
  • From "DIY Decorating & Design"
    episode DID-119
    advertisement

Nancy Golden, host of DIY's Decorating and Design, shows how to paint over vinyl flooring.

    1. Wearing gloves, clean the vinyl floor with either trisodium phosphate (TSP) or an ammonia-based cleaner. (If using TSP, you will need to mix it with water). Let dry.

    2. Using a roller, apply a primer with a built-in sealer.

    3. Brush on a coat of paint with urethane built in, which is specially made for painting over vinyl. The paint is self-leveling, so apply with a brush, not a roller. Let dry.

    4. If you wish, you can stencil over the paint, or you can paint on lines to give the floor the appearance of tile.
