    Materials:

    8 paper egg cartons
    Scissors
    White glue
    Paint -- tempera or acrylic
    Beads -- glass or plastic
    Plastic grocery bag
    Hot glue
    Cardstock or cardboard
    Pencil brushes
    Glitter

    1. Cut off the tops of the egg cartons, leaving a half-inch flap. There will also be a flap on the other side where the carton closes: cut that off (figure A).

    2. Hot-glue the flap to the inside edge of the next carton. Continue adding cartons until you have eight, then glue from number one to number eight to form a circle. Flaps should be on the inside of the circle and the bumpy part of the carton on the outside (figure B).

    3. Trace the inside of the egg-carton circle onto a piece of cardboard.

    4. Cut the cardboard one inch larger than the traced line (figure C) and hot-glue onto the bottom of egg cartons.

    5. Decorate as you like. You can measure poster paper to cover the outside for a smoother finish. Or for fun, decorate the egg shapes for a bumpy look.

    6. Glue on beads if you like (figure D).

    7. Insert a plastic bag in the can for easy trash disposal.

    Tips:

    • Safety comes first when using hot glue. Always have an adult around when using a glue gun.

    • You can use any paper grocery-store egg cartons. Not recommended for foam cartons because the hot glue could melt them.
