    Materials:

    Two 2" x 4" boards -- 6' long
    Rope
    Scissors
    Drill and bits
    Measuring tape
    Goggles
    Pencil
    Optional: Paint and a brush
    One adult

    1. Measure and mark each board at 1', 2-1/2', and 4' intervals from the end of the board (figure A).

    2. At each mark, in the center of the board, drill two holes side by side, about a 1/2" apart. Drill all the way through the board. Make sure the hole is large enough for your rope to pass through (figure B). We found that a 1/2" hole worked well.

    3. If desired, paint the boards.

    4. Cut six lengths of rope that are each at least 6' long (figure C).

    5. Thread rope down through the top of the board and up again from the bottom (figure D). Tie the ends into a square knot to make a loop.

    6. Lay the boards parallel to each other about 3' apart. Have three people stand with one foot on each board behind a set of ropes. Pulling up on the ropes with your hands, try to walk together (figure E).

    Tips:

Have an adult supervise when using tools like a drill or scissors.

    • If you are using nylon rope, you may want an adult to heat the ends with a lighter to keep them from fraying. Only an adult should do this for you.

    • Always wear safety gear, like goggles, when using tools.

    • Be careful when drilling the holes -- you may get splinters in the wood.

    • If you cannot find 6' boards, have the lumber department at your local home center or hardware store cut them for you.

All products are available at craft, all-purpose and hardware stores nationwide.

Note: Guest Jonathan Grubb, fitness expert, advised the DIY kids that before doing any sports activities, etc., they need to have plenty of sleep, make sure they eat healthful foods and always do stretch exercises.
