Actor David Selby shares tips with host Michael Kennedy and pal on how to tell scary stories for your Halloween party.

    Scary Storytelling Tips:

    • Keep the lighting dim; have candles flickering.

    • Use sound effects when you tell the story.

    • Take advantage of recorded sound effects or scary music.

    • Accentuate special adjectives, and use descriptive verbs.

    • Take your time; pause for effect.

    • Speak softly and quietly so listeners have to pay attention.

    • Maintain eye contact with the audience, especially with the children.

    • Use gestures.

    • "Personalize" the story -- pretend it happened to you, or someone you know.
