Add holiday sparkle to any room with glittery fabric, inexpensive decorations and warm candlelight. Interior designer Nancy Golden offers great ideas for adding a glow to holiday dining as she makes over a dining room for the season. At the window, an elegant drape of gold and ivory fabric, framed with heavy gold tassels, is centered with a sprayed-gold swag of twigs, leaves and berries (figure A). Holiday fabric skirts in a patchwork of shimmering dots, black taffeta and gold lame replace everyday dining-chair seat covers (figure B). Velcro® tabs make changes easy.
The table is set for entertaining with yards of glitter-mesh netting, gold place mats trimmed with beaded braid and tall pillar candles turned into topiaries (figure C). To make the candle topiaries, Nancy wrapped clay pots in glittery cloth and tied them with ribbon. A candle was set in each pot on a piece of florists' oasis, and strands of ivy were anchored into the base, then wound up and around the candles.
The buffet table is kept simple yet elegant. Glowing candles sit next to a manzanita twig tree draped with beaded wire and glitter (figure D).
