To keep your bike in peak condition it should always be stored indoors. Installing a bike lift keeps it high and dry, without sacrificing precious garage space.

    • You’ll need enough ceiling to place brackets no more than 5 feet apart (figure A). Making sure they’re mounted securely in the joists.

    • A rope and pulley (figure B) assembly can be attached to the brackets, with the safety rope cleats installed into a stud (figure C) on the nearest wall, and out of the reach of kids.

    • Lube the bike if it’ll be stored for more than a few weeks.

    • When lifting your bike, watch that the load stays balanced as you take it up and down (figure D).

    • Remember, your bike isn’t your only important equipment. The bike rack should also be properly installed and maintained to ensure your cargo arrives safely.

    • Bicycles should always be kept inside to prevent the aging effects of the weather. Even if it’s under an overhang, the dampness of the air will rust steel parts, sunshine will fade the paint job and ozone will harden the degrade of the tires.

    • Some bike lifts systems may have a locking mechanism on the pully which will prevent the rope from slipping until it’s engaged. This will elimagte the need for a wall cleat.

    • Proper care of your bike rack is extremely important to keep it performing. Make sure you lubricate all locks, bolts and connections regularly, and inspect the rack for signs of wear.
