Materials: Table Pieces of tile and stained glass Hammer and towel Super glue Grout and a spatula Sponge and rags Safety glasses Clear acrylic spray paint - Begin by sorting the tile and glass pieces you'd like to use to create your mosaic design.
- If any of the pieces are larger than an inch, fold them into an old towel and with your safety glasses on, tap each tile with a hammer to break it into smaller, more workable pieces (figure A).
- Create a design on top of your chosen table by laying out pieces of the tile and glass. Check that they are about the same thickness and stack thinner pieces of necessary.
- Once you're satisfied with your design, adhere each piece (figure B) to the table with super glue and allow it to dry for 60 to 90 seconds.
- Mix the grout according to the manufacturer's instructions and spread it between and over the tiles with a spatula -- spreading the grout smoothly and level (figure C) with the tops of the tiles.
- Wipe the entire surface with a damp sponge, and wait until a cloudy film forms on the tiles -- and wipe it down again. Let it dry once more and buff the tiles with a dry rag.
- Finally, seal the table by spraying on a coat of clear acrylic.
Your new table is not only functional and beautiful, but creating a mosaic design is fun -- and it makes the table uniquely your own!
