Brick Window TrimMaterials: thin bricks putty knife premixed thinset mortar notched putty knife
- Thin bricks veneer bricks and brick slices made from recycled bricks come in a variety of colors and textures. They are available at home improvement stores, building centers, masonry shops and on the internet.
- Use a putty knife to carefully remove the current trim around the window (figure A).
- Use a plastic putty knife with notched edges to butter the backside of the brick with thinset mortar. Spread out the mortar on the brick, then use the notches to create even ridges (figure B).
Position the brick in the lower left corner of the window (figure C). Once it is lined up, press it firmly into place and let dry. Continue setting bricks around the window (figure D). Dont be afraid to play around with the design and orientation of the bricks; you also can mix up brick colors to go with the rooms' décor. Let the mortar dry completely, then add some grout or caulk between the bricks if desired.
