    Tools:

    acrylic paint in base color
    2 foam paintbrushes
    ruler
    pencil
    scissors
    découpage medium
2 different colors of scrapbook paper: one light and one dark
pennies and dimes to use as game pieces

    1. Paint the entire cigar box using the base color. You might need to sand lightly or remove any outer labels from the box prior to painting. Allow to dry.

    2. You will need 24 triangles and one center bar for the game board.

Calculating the Size of the Triangles

    1. Measure the length of the box and divide by 13. This will be the bottom width measurement for the triangles and the width for the center bar. Measure the width of the box, divide by 2 and subtract 1. This will be the length measurement for the triangles.

    2. Cut 12 triangles from each piece of scrapbook paper in the size determined in step 2.

    3. Cut the center bar from a scrapbook paper of choice. The center bar should be as wide as the triangles and as long as the box.

    4. Use a ruler and pencil to draw a line down the center of the game board. Lay out your game-board pattern on a table (figure A).

    7. Working on the center line, use a foam brush to apply the découpage medium. Glue the center strip down and apply a coat of medium (figure B).

    8. Working in small sections and using the medium (figure C), apply the triangles to the game board, alternating light and dark papers, beginning at the edges and working toward the center (figure D). Use your fingers to press out any air bubbles. Smooth out the top layer of medium with a foam brush. Allow to dry for 24 hours and recoat with the découpage medium.
