Here's a tip for creating perfect corners when working with fabric. Turn the fabric inside out and cut the corners as seen here . . .

then place your finger inside up close to the corner as seen here. . . .

Fold the fabric as seen here with two flaps secured against the finger that's covered with fabric. . . .

Turn right-side out and you have the perfect corner!

    Materials:

Two 28-30" high file cabinets or 7 runner frame and wire basket system
    Board or hollow-core door
    2 coordinating fabrics for skirt
    Wallpaper knife
Velcro (Registered Trademark) brand Half & Half hook and loop tape
    Scissors
    Yardstick or 4' rule
    Pull saw
5-1/4" wood pieces (for open end of hollow-core board)
    Carpenter's glue
    Framing square
    Air erasable marking pen
    Masking tape
    Straight pins
    1/2" or 3/4" wide iron-on fusible adhesive
Iron and large padded pressing surface
    Sewing machine and thread
    Double stick carpet tape (optional)
    Interlining (optional)

    1. Determine what type of space the file cabinet vanity will go and get the measurements. Cut the board or hollow-core door according to the measurements.

    2. Cut the board or hollow-core door. To prevent splintering, be sure to apply masking tape to the measurement line (figure A). Use a 4' ruler and wallpaper knife and wallpaper knife to score the hollow-core door, then cut (figure B). Be sure to keep the small cardboard pieces inside the hollow-core board. Stabilize the open ends of the hollow-core board with 5-/14" wood pieces. Simply glue or nail them on the end (figure C).

Tip for Cutting Board: Use a pull saw to cut the hollow-core board. It cuts as you pull it toward your body.

    3. Place board on cabinets. Apply carpet tape to underside of board if slippage is a problem. Apply the Velcro brand sticky-back hook tape along the narrow edge of the tabletop. Let "cure" overnight before attaching skirt.

    4. Cut 2 different fabrics for each skirt panel as follows: one panel for back, one for each side, 2 for front and 4 for corner kickpleats. If fabric patterns show through you can add an interlining, cut to same size as panels and pin to wrong side of one design and then treat as one unit. To determine cutting width and length of each panel measure area to be covered and add 1" all around to allow for 1" seam allowances. Make corner kick panels 20" wide.

    5. Pin corresponding fabric panels, right sides together for each section. Stitch each section in a 1" seam leaving a 6-8" opening at center bottom (figure D). Clip corners, turn lined panels right side out and press.

Note: See the last four images (right) to create the perfect fabric corner.

    6. Insert a strip of fusible adhesive along lower opening seam allowances and following manufacturers directions, fuse opening closed.

    7. Position the Velcro brand sew-on loop tape along the top edge of the "inner" side of each panel (figure E). If a contrasting kickpleat is desired, apply loop tape to the other design side. Use masking tape or pins to hold in place. Machine stitch along all edges of loop tape.

    8. Apply a sticky-back or a sew-on hook tape strip on the reverse side of each kickpleat along the top edge.

    9. Center a kickpleat panel over each corner and press to tabletop edge. Position the remaining panels in place so they overlap the kickpleats and meet at corners.

    10. To reverse the skirt, remove and re-hang the panels, turning the top edge down about 1" so the Velcro sections mesh.
