    Game-Piece Necklaces
    Tools:

    Scrabble game piece
    ribbon
    metal charm
    2 wooden beads
    necklace clasp
    2 small jump rings
    1 medium jump ring
    pendant backing
    1 head pin
    E-6000 glue
    fabric glue
    felt scrap
    needle-nose jewelry pliers
    jewelry wire-cutters

    1. Using E-6000 glue, glue the pendant backing to the back of the Scrabble game piece (figure A). Make sure the loop on the backing is positioned toward the top of the letter (figure B).

    2. Use needle-nose pliers to bend the head pin in a looped U shape (figure C) and line up the loop with the back of the game piece. The curved end of the loop should hang off the bottom of the game piece: this is where you will attach the charm.

    3. Using the wire-cutters, trim the ends of the head pin so that they fit on the back of the Scrabble game piece (don't forget the overhang). Dip the ends of the loop into the E-6000 glue and glue to the back of the Scrabble piece (figure D).

    4. Using needle-nose pliers, link three jump rings and the charm together. Attach the charm to a small jump ring (figure E); then attach the small jump ring to a medium jump ring (figure F); and finally, attach the medium jump ring to another small jump ring. Attach the chain of jump rings to the head pin loop on the back of the game piece (figure G).

    5. Wrap the ribbon around your neck to determine how long you want the necklace to be. Add 1" to the desired length and cut the ribbon to the appropriate length.

    6. Thread a wooden bead onto the ribbon; then thread the charm onto the ribbon; and finally, thread on a second wooden bead.

    7. Stretch out the ribbon, making sure it's flat. Thread one clasp piece to one end of the ribbon and the other clasp to the other end. Working on the ends, secure the clasp in place by folding over and fabric-gluing 1/2" of ribbon over the clasp (figure H). Slide the wooden bead over the folded ribbon and fabric-glue in place (figure I).

    8. Allow the necklace to dry. Once it's dry, use fabric glue to glue a small square of felt on the back of the Scrabble piece (figure J).
