Spaghetti Herb GardenMaterials: medium-size galvanized tub small herb plants: basil, thyme, marjoram, parsley and oregano potting mix made for container gardens large nail hammer small spade or shovel water 1. Turn the galvanized tub upside down. Hammer the large nail into the bottom and remove the nail (figure A) to create drainage holes. Continue hammering the nail in 12 equally spaced places.
2. Add a shallow layer of potting mix (figure B). Look for a potting mix that has nutritional amendments added.
3. Remove the herbs from their containers by gently squeezing the plastic container, turning upside down and pressing on the bottom of container until the herbs are removed (figure C).4. Place the basil plant in the back of the container (it will probably grow the tallest). Add the remaining plants around the edge of the basil (figure D). Evenly distribute more potting mix to fill the tub nearly to the top. Pat down the potting mix with your fingers, and check after the first watering to see whether the mix has settled and whether more mix is needed.
5. Water and place in a sunny area.6. Keep the herbs from getting leggy and encourage new leaf growth by pruning and using the herbs in your cooking.
