Here's a more contemporary look using the "hand and fingers" painting technique.

    Materials:

Candle box (figure A) or box of your choice
    Primer or sealer
    Sandpaper
Acrylic paint (colors of your choice)
    Glaze
    Sponge brushes

    1. Sand and prime or seal the box to get it ready for the painting process.

    2. Mix the acrylic paint and glaze (usually a ration of 4 parts paint to 1 part glaze).

    3. Apply the paint/glaze mixture to the box, using a sponge brush to avoid streaks.

    4. Use your index finger, knuckles and fingernails (figure B) to create designs on the box -- while the paint is wet. Note: You usually only have 10 or 15 minutes to work with the paint before it dries.

Products: Available at any craft store nationwide.
