Two of Jackie Guerra's beaded headbands

Actress Jackie Guerra says she inherited her creativity from her mother. Her mom's sudden death in 1997 left the young woman feeling lost, but her concerned fiance brought her craft materials to lift her spirits, and a new passion began taking shape. Now she creates lovely beaded jewelry -- a tribute to the artistic spirit of her beloved parent.

    Materials:
    Pronged wire headband (figure A)
Length of 24-gauge wire equaling 1-1/2 times the length of your arm
    Needle-nose pliers
    Tweezers
    Scissors
Several crystals (with holes for stringing)

    1. Loop one end of the wire around the first prong of the headband (be sure to keep the prongs away from your face as you work).

    2. Loop the wire around the anchor (the first prong) at least 3 or 4 times.

    3. Alternate your choice of crystals onto the headband. Take the wire and bend it around the first and second prong while holding the crystals with your index finger (be sure to hold your index finger on the wire).

    4. Pull tight and pull each of the crystals through for each of the additional prongs.

    5. Once you complete all the prongs, anchor the wire down onto the headband by snipping the rest of the wire with scissors.

Guerra says she can practically guarantee that people will stop you on the street to ask you where you got your beaded headband!
