Susan Khalje and her guest, Stephanie Masae Kimura, create an exquisite kimono-style vest from a variety of luxury fabrics and embellish it with appliqued, embroidered and quilted designs.

    Materials:
    Kimono Vest pattern
2 yards main print fabric (enough for the lining and portions of the front and back )
3/4yard coordinating fabric (in this case purple)
3/4 yard coordinating fabric (in this case green)
1/2 yard floral fabric (the background doesn't matter since the flowers will be cut out)
    1 yard Thermore(R) lightweight batting
    1 yard muslin (prewashed)
    2 strips iron-on interfacing, 32"x 2-1/2"
Decorative threads: Sulky Sliver Metallic, Holoshimmer or Superior Thread Glitter
    Bugle beads

    Steps:

    1. Using the original pattern fronts and back, cut the following: (main print) lining , muslin and batting (figure A).
    2. Make two copies of the pattern front and one copy of the whole back. Draw lines as shown in the book. Cut the copies of the pattern and label the pieces (figure B).
    3. Cut the center fronts and the upper back out of the main print.
    4. Cut the left front and left lower back out of purple.
    5. Cut the right front and right lower back out of green (figure C).
    6. Lay out all the muslin pieces, top with batting, top batting with main print, purple and green fabric. Spray adhesive between layers to keep them in place.
