    Figure B

This cute ribbon lion can be easily created by layering and sewing ribbons. Ellie Schneider-Joos of Offray demonstrates.

Materials: 12" length of 1 1/2" grosgrain ribbon (light shade)
13" length of 7" grosgrain ribbon (medium shade)
2" length of 1 1/2" grosgrain ribbon (dark shade)
    Needle
Matching and contrasting colors of thread

    1. Beginning with 12" length of light ribbon, turn under short end and use basting stitch (figure A) to stitch in place.

    2. Gather long edge and pull ribbon into a circle (figure B). Overlap ends and stitch together.

    3. Cut a 9" length from 7/8" ribbon and repeat step 1. Cut remaining piece into two lengths. For ears, gather each length along two short edges and one long edge. Pull into an "ear" shape and stitch ears to large circle.

    4. Stitch smaller circle to center of larger circle.

    5. For nose, stitch around dark ribbon in a circle. Pull thread to gather. Stitch to center of the smaller circle.

    6. To finish, use contrasting thread to stitch mouth, eyes and whiskers.
