    Materials:

    Craft foam
    Paper
    Pencil
    Hole punch
    Heavy-duty thread
    Markers
    Scissors
    White glue
    Glitter

    1. Make a pattern out of paper (figure A). We made stars for our design. Try whatever you like!

    2. Trace the patterns onto multiple colors of craft foam (figure B) and cut out the shapes. You will need 2 that are large and 10 that are smaller.

    3. Add glitter to decorate if desired (figure C). We glued around the edges of the star and added glitter. Shake off the excess glitter and put it back in the bottle to reuse again.

    4. Fit 2 pieces together for a 3-D effect by cutting a very thin slit in each shape. For the first piece, cut from the top to the middle and for the second piece cut from the bottom to the middle. Now slide the two pieces together (figure D) and continue until you have all the pieces done.

    5. On the large star, punch one hole in the top to hang it from. Then, punch one hole in the bottom and one in each point where the smaller stars will hang (figure E).

    6. Using the thread (figure F), tie the smaller stars to the larger one so that they will dangle .

Tip: Have an adult supervise when you use scissors.

Products: All products available at craft and all-purpose stores nationwide.

Ms. Farroch told the DIY kids that people in the hospital love to have children visit. Children are happy, have a lot to talk about and the patients like hearing about what the children do in school, etc. Taking them gifts you make really brings some cheer into their lives.
