Guide poles are essential for backing down into a boat ramp and loading your boat onto a trailer. Host John Greviskis explains how to install a set onto your trailer.

After measuring the width of the boat, add six inches to each side to get the proper width for installing the guide poles.

    1. Insert two "U" bolts into the frame of the trailer (figure A). Tighten the nuts slightly by hand.

    2. Next, slide the elbow shaped aluminum into place (figure B), making sure it goes through the 'U' bolt.

    3. Tighten down the nuts on the "U" bolt with a 7/16" socket.

    4. Place the PVC uprights over the aluminum pole (figure C).

    5. Repeat these steps for the second guide pole.
