DIY NETWORK EXPLORES THE SCIENCE OF HOME IMPROVEMENT
WITH "DECONSTRUCTION" PREMIERING JULY 2 AT 9 P.M. ET

New Orleans, La., Tuesday, May 20, 2008— DIY Network takes home improvement to the next level with its new series, Deconstruction. In order to truly understand what you’re building, sometimes you need to take it apart! And DIY Stud Finder finalist Matt Blashaw will do just that, beginning Wednesday, July 2 at 9 p.m. ET. During each of the 13 episodes, Blashaw conducts fun-filled and innovative experiments to answer questions like: How do you pressure-treat wood? Is home insulation really fire retardant? And is granite really worth the expense? Plus, field trips to research labs and testing facilities give viewers a backstage pass into the high-tech world of home improvement.

In the series premiere, Blashaw helps viewers learn what types of windows are strongest and which ones cut down electricity bills and why. Who knew eggs, a blow torch, a baseball pitching machine and a wrist rocket would play such an important role on a home improvement show? Catch this and more on DIY every Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET, as Blashaw makes lots of noise and puts every day home improvement products to the test to dissect the who, what, where and why of the do-it-yourself world.

Southern California-based contractor and handyman, Matt Blashaw, spent his teen years working at his father’s lumberyard before graduation from Chapman University. He then moved on to a variety of construction jobs. A stint with the technical service group at Disney taught him about show effects and electrical installation. He’s never afraid to make mistakes because that’s where he’s learned the most. Blashaw was a finalist in DIY’s first handyman talent search, Stud Finder, and makes his DIY Network debut this summer as the host of Deconstruction.

Deconstruction debuts on Wednesday, July 2 at 9 p.m. ET and airs every Wednesday night during DIY’s Nailed at 9 prime time programming block.
