Raised in Panama, Shahnaz LaCaze is fluent in Spanish, English and the language of art and construction. The daughter of an architect and a stylist, her parents enrolled her in art classes at an early age and encouraged her full artistic expression. At 19, Shahnaz moved to America. After seeing hats in a Florida boutique, she borrowed a sewing machine and created 20 hat samples from vintage clothes found at a Salvation Army store. She knocked on the doors of trendy South Beach boutiques and soon two stores were carrying her "Flip" line of reversible hats. They were also picked up by a boutique in Atlanta.
That's also about the time Shahnaz's fascination with framing began. Working in a local frame shop, she learned the tools of the trade. She also studied photography, fashion design, sculpture, painting and silk screening. She used every creative trick in her arsenal to make her framing designs distinctive.
Since 1999, Shahnaz has served as Studio Manager for the Amir Photography and Frame Gallery in Los Angeles. There she creates design, layout and framing solutions for private clients and frames the work of artists that appear in the gallery's frequent art shows. She also continues to paint and intuitively understands how to make each piece she frames unique.
Shahnaz is excited to share her framing secrets and help viewers transform their personal treasures into works of art as the host of Get Framed on DIY Network!
