    LP Regulator
    The common denominator between all four of the LP-fired appliances on the typical RV is the LP regulator. It's the theoretical heart of the LP system. The adjustable regulator must be set to the correct delivery pressure at least twice a year and most definitely prior to an extended RV excursion.

    Note: The LP regulator "regulates" the gas flow to the RV refrigerator, stove, water heater and furnace.

    Host Gary Bunzer shows Kevin Quigley how to set the pressure correctly, using a device called a "manometer"—it's impossible to correctly set the LP pressure by simply looking at a burner flame. The manometer is also used to check the entire RV for LP leaks.

    Materials:

    valve and 2 fittings
    ammonia free liquid soap and water
    spray bottle

    Tools:

    manometer
    screwdriver
    lighter

    1. Turn off all appliances and close the valve on the LP containers.

    2. Connect the manometer (figure A) to the system anywhere after regulation.

    3. Apply the test adaptor to the chosen test point. (The test adaptor is made up of a valve and two fittings.)

    4. Connect the manometer to the adaptor.

    5. Open the service valve on the LP container.

    6. Light a couple of burners inside the RV to load the regulator and activate the manometer.

    7. Slowly open the valve on the manometer.

    8. Adjust the regulator to 11.0 w.c. inches.

    9. Extinguish the lit burners and watch the reaction on the manometer.

    10. Close the service valve on the LP containers and bleed the pressure to about 5.0 w.c. inches.

    11. Wait 10 minutes. If the pressure drops, there is a leak somewhere in the system. If the pressure rises, there is a leak through the service valve.

    12. Disconnect the manometer and use a soapy solution to test those fittings (if any) that were loosened.
