When it becomes necessary to bleed your brake lines from the wheels, here's a tip that works really well. - Use a plastic cup for catching the brake fluid. You'll need to make certain that the cup is made of a material that is impervious to brake fluid.
- Place a small amount of brake fluid in the bottom of the cup, then coil some rubber vacuum line in the bottom of the cup, with one end leading out of the top of the cup (figure A).
- Connect the other end of the vacuum line to the brake leader, as on the brake caliper shown in our demonstration (figure B).
- As you gently press the brake pedal from inside the car, bubbling in the fluid in the bottom of the cup indicates that the air and fluid in the lines is flowing into the cup.
- As the contents of the lines flows out into the cup, the fluid in the lines will be replaced by fluid from the master cylinder -- which should be manually topped off during the bleeding process.
