Fuel Pressure Regulator and Check Valve; Re-Install Intake Manifold

Next up in the fuel system overhaul, Andrew installs a new fuel pressure regulator.

The stock fuel pressure regulator is just not adequate run with the newly installed fuel rail and ported intake manifold, so Andrew replaces it with a new adjustable regulator.

New Fuel Pressure Regulator and Check Valve

• Start by installing the new regulator (figure K), which is held in place by two bolts (figure L).

• Next to it there's an external fuel port that needs to be capped. This would be used for accessories like nitrous or a diagnostic setup.

• To get the fuel line back on, Andrew threads the coupling into the end of the fuel rail and tightens it down (figure M).

• Slide the fuel line in place and screw the end cap on and tighten it down to finish up.

• Andrew removes a few things from the old intake manifold onto the new one before it goes into the car. The temperature sensor is easily removed, and it can be placed in the same spot on the new manifold. The idle air circuit is held in place by two bolts and pops back on easily (figure N).

  Installing the fuel-pressure regulator

• The project car has an aftermarket turbo, so Andrew installs a check valve between the throttle body and the manifold absolute pressure sensor, also known as MAP. It serves to bleed off the turbo before the sensor so the computer doesn't think there's anything out of the ordinary.
